Capture technique (90% of quality)
- Even side lighting without shadows — avoid direct overhead light.
- Camera perfectly parallel to the page, page on a dark stable surface.
- Get as close as focus allows; never use digital zoom.
- Use the document mode if available (sharper text).
Built-in scanning
iPhone: Notes app > camera > "Scan Documents" — auto-crops (document detection), multi-page, exports PDF. Android: Google Drive > + > "Scan", or Google Lens — same flow.
After scanning
- Extract the text to make the paper searchable and copyable.
- Compress with grayscale — scans shrink 60-90%.
- Merge pages and finish with numbers or a signature.
